Why Hawks Win

Foreign Policy have an article by Daniel Kahneman and Jonathan Renshon on why hawks win - apparently people are overly optimistic and rarely take context into account when evaluating hostile acts.

Really interesting - there is an analogy in evolutionary psychology whereby men are supposed to have evolved over-optimisim with respect to their attractiveness to the opposite sex. The idea is that it motivates them to proposition and the more propositions the more likely that they will find someone.
