How do we change behaviour? Make it simple

This new report from the Ipsos MORI Social Research Institute includes a set of interviews with leading figures from behavioural science and discussions of ongoing work examining the ways that social psychology and behavioural economics can contribute to understanding behaviour change in areas such as health, energy usage, and savings.

Susan Michie discusses her COM-B ('combee') framework for analyzing behaviour by examining capabilities, motivation, and opportunity and how different types of policies and interventions can affect these determinants of behaviour change. Cass Sunstein discusses his new book 'Simple: The future of government' reviewed on this blog by Mark Egan here. Theresa Marteau outlines the importance of targeting automatic processes when intervening to change behaviour and discusses general issues relating to nudging and government intervention.
