ECONOMICS DIVISION
The Economics Division at the Stirling Management School is committed to the pursuit of excellence in both research and teaching. Teaching: Economics Division staff are involved in teaching on a range of undergraduate programs, including Honours in Economics, the Honours in Money, Banking and Finance, a range of postgraduate programs, including the MSc in Banking and Finance, and the Scottish Graduate Program in Economics (http://www.sgpe.ac.uk).

We continue to actively pursue a strategy of attracting high quality postgraduate research students to join our current cohort of 13 PhD students. The Division was awarded the highest grades (‘commendable’ on all counts) by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council Teaching Quality Assessment Review which reported in 2002. Research: In the latest (2008) Research Assessment Exercise, 15% of our research was rated as world-leading and a further 45% as internationally excellent. The Panel commented that “All of the research (at Stirling) was rated at the international level, with an impressive proportion deemed to be world leading”. We are now investing to improve this performance.
The Division's main research concentrations are in the areas of environmental and energy economics, banking and finance, behavioural economics, work and well-being and regional/urban economics.
A lively research culture is fostered by a weekly series of workshops at which staff and research students present their work and weekly seminars by visiting speakers. The Post
We are looking to hire a Lecturer in Economics to fill the teaching duties of a colleague who has recently been funded as an ESRC professorial fellow.
We estimate the full teaching load over the 12 months would be around 70 hours. We are interested in people with active research programmes who show evidence of excellence in performance and promise for the future, and who would play a full part within the excellent research culture of the Division and wider School.
Description of Duties
- Teaching a one-semester course in basic econometrics on the MSc Banking and Finance
- Teaching of introductory level economics (micro/macro) on the MSc Banking and Finance
- Teaching in the economics of risk on the MSc Banking and Finance
Essential Criteria
- PhD in Economics or related subject (awarded or pending).
- Excellent research motivation.
- Demonstrated teaching ability and success at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in economics.
- Evidence of recent academic research output at the level of 2*
- Academic management: Evidence of effective and efficient contribution in administrative roles
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
Desirable Criteria
- Publications of 3* quality or higher
- Experience of teaching in the economics of banking and finance.
