The University
Stirling was the first new university to be established in Scotland for nearly 400 years, created by Royal Charter in 1967. Since its foundation, the University has embraced its role as an innovative, intellectual and cultural institution with an established reputation for blending arts and science.

Stirling is a University of distinction, home to leading researchers and scholars attracted by the unique learning environment, exceptional facilities and student-centred approach, where ability, not background, is recognised and valued.

The essence of the University of Stirling is its people: graduates, staff and students are helping to shape the world by making a direct and positive contribution to the development of prosperous, healthy and sustainable communities around the globe.

The University population has grown from 164 undergraduate students and 31 postgraduates in 1967 to 8,800 undergraduates and 3,500 postgraduates in 2012. With over 100 nationalities represented at Stirling, around one in five students come from overseas.

A truly Scottish university, Stirling’s reach extends to campuses in the Highland capital of Inverness and to Stornoway, gateway to the Western Isles.

Stirling’s main campus is located at the historic heart of Scotland, with convenient links to the rest of the UK and beyond. The University is within easy reach of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh, and its largest city, Glasgow. Scotland’s two main international airports are less than an hour away, with direct flights to Europe and beyond.
About Us
THE MANAGEMENT SCHOOL
The Stirling University School of Management brings together academics in a wide range of disciplines to provide high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to undertake internationally-recognised research. Disciplines involved in the School include Economics, Accounting and Finance, Social Marketing and Retail Studies. Please see www.stir.ac.uk/management for more information.
ECONOMICS DIVISION
The Economics Division at the Stirling Management School is committed to the pursuit of excellence in both research and teaching. Teaching: Economics Division staff are involved in teaching on a range of undergraduate programs, including Honours in Economics, the Honours in Money, Banking and Finance, a range of postgraduate programs, including the MSc in Banking and Finance, and the Scottish Graduate Program in Economics (http://www.sgpe.ac.uk).

We have also recently introduced an MSc program in Energy Management and an MSc in Environmental Economics. For details on the MSc Energy Management, see: http://www.stir.ac.uk/postgraduate/programme-information/prospectus/management/energy-management/

We continue to actively pursue a strategy of attracting high quality postgraduate research students to join our current cohort of 13 PhD students. The Division was awarded the highest grades (‘commendable’ on all counts) by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council Teaching Quality Assessment Review which reported in 2002. Research: In the latest (2008) Research Assessment Exercise, 15% of our research was rated as world-leading and a further 45% as internationally excellent. The Panel commented that “All of the research (at Stirling) was rated at the international level, with an impressive proportion deemed to be world leading”. We are now investing to improve this performance.

The Division's main research concentrations are in the areas of environmental and energy economics, banking and finance, behavioural economics, work and well-being and regional/urban economics.

A lively research culture is fostered by a weekly series of workshops at which staff and research students present their work and weekly seminars by visiting speakers. We also run a weekly staff seminar for outside visiting economists. Our list of working papers is available at:http://www.stir.ac.uk/management/research/economics/working-papers/

A full listing of Economics Division faculty members is available at:http://www.stir.ac.uk/management/about/economics/
