Woo hoo, UCD is 98th in another daft league table. Not as high as the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research alas but better than the University of Alberta. By coincidence, I was reading an interesting piece today by Harvey Goldstein and David Spiegelhalter (forthcoming in Statistical Science) which is rather critical of these academic rankings including the following observation: "(we) argue that citations form a rather bizarre measure of research performance, as if the sole purpose of research was to provide material for other researchers."
