Ok - so we are making some progress. A lot done.....
General consensus on:
Need to widen the middle column and distinguish the colour
Need to work on font colours
Kevin had a good suggestion for a "notes" section that would house longer pieces as on the Irish Economy blog.
Some suggestions in for the image including one for images of famous economists. Am thinking of some alternatives.
Any other suggestions???

There are zillions of papers appearing that might be of some relevance to readers of the blog. I tend to post on one's that catch my eye so its pretty random. It would be time consuming & use up too much blogspace (is that a word? it is now) to plug them all. So I wonder is it possible to use the side panels to have short links to papers.
I agree with Leigh Caldwell that the middle column should be wider. This will also fill out more of the screen.
I believe the (un-sponsored) link to the UCD MA program is out of date. This is the new one. The widening of the middle column and changing of the colour scheme for the two periphery columns would also be good. A 'papers we like' section might work with Kevin Denny's idea.
The other thing I forgot to mention is that links should be a different colour too.

Having the name of the poster and the post-labels in CAPS loiks good; I think this stuff should still be in a different colour font though.
Also think that we could probably do with more space between the blog-post title and the blog-post text.
