Reforms to Student Loans in the UK

A story on page 2 of Monday's Finacial Times says that wealthier families will benefit from the UK government's reforms to student loans, but that the poorest households will gain nothing. The changes will give more financial support to students from families with incomes above $17,500 - but not to those below that level. However, the poorest students still get the highest support. A report out on Monday from IFS was cited, authored by Haroon Chowdry and Emla Fitzsimons. "It would probably be better to spend (the) money trying to improve school results" said Chowdry. Dr. Fitzsimons gave a seminar in Geary earlier this year.
