Some info about Stirling

The point of this post is share some links about Stirling for prospective students, speakers etc., I hope to use it as a handy way of giving people information and also hope that people send suggestions to add to it. For now the information is present in completely random order. Obviously nothing below is intended as a formal recommendation and should be treated as a first start rather than an end-point!

The University's page about Campus Life is available here

See the University's page for details about getting here. You can fly into Edinburgh or Glasgow airports. Glasgow International is somewhat more convenient for Stirling than Glasgow Prestwick.

A lot of us found the BBC History of Scotland very interesting. Stirling is a historical place. Mel Gibson's "Braveheart" placed William Wallace in the international spotlight. Wallace was from nearby and many things around here are named after him including the local secondary school.

One of the main tourist attractions in Stirling is Stirling Castle. The Wallace Monument is also an iconic symbol of Stirling.

The campus cinema and theatre is called Macrobert.

Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are located nearby - less than an hour by train. A bus (909) goes directly between Edinburgh and Stirling University. Other cities such as Aberdeen, Perth and Dundee are also within a few hours train ride.

The Bus Timetable for the main buses are available here.

Nearby towns include Dunblane (home of Andy Murray!) and Bridge of Allen and are worth visiting.
