Auto-Enrollment Irish Edition

The Irish government outlined a nationwide auto-enrollment soft-mandatory scheme today. The basic auto-enrollment feature looks very sensible at first glance but I haven't yet looked closely at the deal the employees are getting, and what burden and costs it places on the employers. I have presented on several occasions, including to the Commission on Taxation, on the use of soft-mandatory options and I think this is a potentially ground-breaking step for Irish policy, one that may have spinoff effects into areas like tax and law. But let me reserve full judgment until I can look properly at the numbers.

Also worth noting that the Government has decided to raise the retirement age to 66 for State pension purposes in 2014, 67 in 2021 and 68 in 2028.

Another gov. scam concocted to separate fools from their money for the benefit of the state! Where are the modern day Irish entrepreneurs and Austrian economists like Richard Cantillon in Ireland today? Does Ireland have a Dr. Ron Paul?
