Applia

Ronan Lyons tweets that he wishes he had known about this website when he was a student. We have featured it before I think but the link to applia is here. This reminds me of my promise to start including things on this blog that will be of interest to undergraduates in economics. More to follow..

I hope readers will forgive me for self promotion if I point out that I have been using Aplia in introductory and managerial economics courses at NUI Galway for the past 4 years.

We are currently analysing whether Aplia assignments were more or less effective than traditional paper assignments in helping students perform well on exams. So far we have found little effect which could be taken as a positive result for Aplia given how much easier it is to use for the lecturer. Feel free to email me if you like a draft of this paper.

On the more general point of good resources for undergraduate students one site that I could recommend is a series of podcasts conducted by Russell Roberts with various economists. They can be found on the econlog site at http://econlog.econlib.org/

Thanks Brendan. I regret not being able to make it to your session on undergraduate teaching. The Roberts podcasts are great. We have collected a groups of different ones on the sidebar to this blog.
