361 Intelligent Civilisations outside earth

According to a paper in the International Journal of Astrobiology - if any of you tune into the blog let us know if you have any suggestions for the current difficulties and remember that corporation tax in Ireland is only 12.5 per cent.

Are we talking 'intelligent' just-like-what-we-is? Setting the bar a bit low there surely.

My definition of intelligent civilisation is one that invents politics, nuclear weapons and the internal combustion engine and then figures out a way to de-invent them and progress to a higher stage without wiping themselves out.

Which I guess makes us a 'civilisation-in-gestation' rather than, you know, one ready to join our brothers, sisters and trans-post-bi-gender siblings in the stars. Some day, hopefully.

More bad science. The number is next to meaninglessness since there is no direct evidence , I think their "confidence interval" is between 1 and 36,000 in this galaxy. At times I wonder about the 1...

I was thinking of some of the implications of 361 other intelligent civilisations

- Ryanair space flights that leave you a few light years from where you want to go. Michael O'Leary railing on the supreme leader of various far-away universes to increase their landing capacities

- great for economists, lots of new instruments to use

- Irish pubs lead to corruption of many previously well-organised and sober civilisations
